The 2s Class

Tuesdays and Wednesdays

or

Thursdays and Fridays

9:30 am–12:00pm

8 children / class

The two-year-olds meet either Tuesdays and Wednesdays or Thursdays and Fridays, 9:30am – noon, with a maximum of 8 children.  As with all classes at SSNS, parents are welcome to stay and play with their child on any day, even when not co-oping in the classroom.

The basic goals of the two-year-old program are to encourage the intellectual growth of each child, help each child develop socially, support and encourage the tremendous growth in physical abilities experienced by twos, and encourage mastery of the environment—which leads to self-confidence and emotional growth. During the year, the play progresses from parallel play, to play that is interactive with classmates.

The 3s Class

Tuesdays,  Wednesdays and Thursdays

9:30 am–1:00pm

Max:

15 children/class

The three-year-olds meet Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 9:30am – 1:00pm, with a maximum of 15 children. The teacher sets up a variety of activities, which encourage children to explore and experiment in social situations, math skills, science procedures, social studies, art materials, and language arts development. They acquire physical growth, increase understanding, and gain knowledge in a safe and supportive environment. Helping the children to learn communication and social skills is our most important goal.

The 4s Class

Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays

9:30 am–1:00pm

Max:

16 children/class

The four-year-olds meet Mondays through Thursdays, 9:30am – 1:00pm, with a maximum of 16 children. The class explores mathematics, science, social studies, and language arts. There are numerous craft projects and musical opportunities as well as special field trips. The teacher works throughout the year to transition the children from an open classroom environment to the challenges and expectations of kindergarten.

What our members say about SSNS:

"Silver Spring Nursery School is a very special place, and I am so glad I found this wonderful community that warmly embraces my daughter and our family."

"SSNS offered something fundamentally different. From the beginning, they viewed behavior as communication, looked at the whole child, and truly allowed children to lead their learning. Their classrooms are built around principles of universal design, recognizing that the tools and strategies that support neurodivergent children benefit all learners. The inclusivity at SSNS is unmatched."

"Another defining aspect of SSNS’s philosophy is its commitment to outdoor play. SSNS provides
significantly more outdoor time than many comparable programs, recognizing that children—
particularly those with higher energy levels or regulatory challenges—benefit from movement,
sensory engagement, and play-based learning."

"SSNS is a preschool model and a special community I will always support. The school
really promotes everything in line with the child development philosophy our family
aligns with. Half-day, play-based, socially-emotionally focused, co-op, and an emphasis
on outdoor time. I wholeheartedly believe that SSNS will continue to do everything in its
power to make families like mine feel included, welcomed, supported, and celebrated."
