Karen Carter
2’s Teacher
3’s & 4’s Classroom Aide
Karen has been working (and playing) at Silver Spring Nursery School as a teacher's aide, substitute teacher and Friday morning theme class teacher since 1997. We are pleased that she will begin teaching our 2’s class in the fall of 2004. Before joining SSNS, Karen performed child care in her home for four years.
Karen and her husband, Steward, were married in 1968 and have five children. Kimberly, the eldest, lives in Portland, Oregon; Kathleen lives in Bethesda, Maryland, and works in real estate; and her third daughter, Kelley has worked as an aide in our 4's class and the Friday morning theme class at SSNS. Her eldest son, Kevin, is a triathlete and pro hang glider; and Kurtis, the youngest, is a music and theatre enthusiast. Not to forget their two dogs, one cat, and one hamster.
Karen and her family enjoy spending time outdoors -- going to the beach, camping, running, biking, swimming, walking, hiking and rock climbing. In her free time, Karen can be found in the kitchen baking and cooking for her family. She loves working with children and their parents and enjoys the opportunities for developing her skills that the co-op environment provides.
